Jury Finds in Favor of Federal Signal Corporation for Seventh Consecutive Hearing Loss Win

Press Release from Federal Signal Corporation

OAK BROOK, Ill., Nov. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Federal Signal Corporation (NYSE:FSS), a leader in environmental and safety solutions, today announced that on Friday, November 17, 2017, a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania jury absolved the Company from any liability in a lawsuit brought by a former Philadelphia firefighter who claimed he developed hearing loss due to the Company's warning siren on Philadelphia fire trucks. Following a one-week trial, the jury deliberated for less than two hours before returning a verdict in favor of the Company, finding that the Company's siren was neither defective nor was the Company negligent in its design of the siren.

"This is the seventh consecutive defense win in which a jury returned a verdict in favor of the Company, as well as our second win within the past six weeks," commented Daniel DuPre, Vice President and General Counsel. "The verdict further reinforces the safety elements of our siren, which is a vital safety product not only for the public, but also for firefighters themselves."

Jan Paul Miller, one of the Company's attorneys from Thompson Coburn LLP, stated, "We are gratified that for the second time in a little over a month a jury has found that our siren is safe. Our string of trial victories shows the firefighter claims regarding Federal Signal's warning siren are baseless."

Plaintiffs were represented by Joseph Cappelli and Thomas Joyce of Bern Cappelli LLC.
