Our new process introduces a tiny amount of material during manufacturing - material that attracts hungry microbes to plastic surfaces.
When the plastic item is thrown away into an appropriate landfill, bacteria sense the food, gather, and break down the structure of the plastic.
In a small fraction of the amount of time it would take non-treated plastics to disappear, our products degrade into stable humus (which balances soil pH and helps keep soils aerated) and methane (in anaerobic) or carbon dioxide (in aerobic conditions).
Decade Bio safety glasses won’t begin to disintegrate until they are buried in a landfill. Find more at chaseergo dot com.
* Ongoing ASTM D5511 testing reveal an average 25.9% biodegradation in the first 469 days.
Actual biodegradation rates vary in landfills according to moisture level. Present tests at approx. 45% solids content are representative of wetter landfills, such as in the southeastern US.
