Shippers who offer hazardous materials for transport by vessel are subject to different regulations than those who ship only by ground or air. Failure to comply with the standards set forth by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) can result in rejected shipments, costly port delays and fines, and injury to passengers and personnel. (See IMDG Training FAQ.)
Hazmat Vessel Shipper Certification is designed to meet the training requirement for shipping by vessel at IMDG 1.3.1. Building on your existing 49 CFR knowledge, you will learn how to navigate the IMDG Code, your additional vessel shipping responsibilities, and how 49 CFR and the IMDG Code work together. The workshop includes in-depth exercises to reinforce the content and illustrate the real-world applications of the regulations. Students who complete this workshop will be prepared to classify, name, package, and label hazardous materials for shipment by vessel, as well as complete hazmat shipping documentation.
Before taking IMDG hazmat training, we strongly recommend professionals complete training on the US DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations for domestic ground shipments (49 CFR). See Lion’s Hazmat Ground Shipper Certification.
